May 19, 2008- When will your bad habits catch
up with you? September 19, 2007- Belated congratulations
to Paweena Sukhawathanakul, the recipient of the 2007 Roy Watson
Memorial Scholarship from the CRD Traffic Safety Commission and the
University of Victoria. August 6, 2007- Although extremely belated
news, better late than never right? The Traffic Safety
Commission is currently focusing on
increasing booster seat
awareness (news release).
You may have seen the above signs on local vehicles.
For more information, please see this
booster seat
info sheet. Call the Child Seat Information Line at 1-877-247-5551 with your questions. Alternatively, link to the BCAA
Traffic Safety Foundation for more information on car seat safety. July 7, 2007- Thank you for all your
responses thus far, please keep
sending feedback! Just an update -
along with the final news release
-
we have the top 10 reasons
people give for speeding. Apparently some drivers are under
the impression that they have the right to speed if there is a "good
song on the radio" or if they are test driving a car!
In addition, the
final statistics for the campaign are now available. July 1, 2007- If you frequently drive the
Malahat, you may have noticed this sign in the past two weeks:
The
statistics
have shown significant improvement over the two-week time period.
The percentage of drivers going more than 10kph over the limit has
dropped from 91% to 18%, while the most dangerous drivers –
those going more than 30kph over the limit – has dropped from
19% to just 1%. And the number of drivers going more than
40kph over – which garners a $483 fine for excessive speeding –
has dropped from 8% a week ago, to almost none (1/300), with
none +60kph over. Statistics only tell part of the story, so we're
also asking for feedback. Specifically we're interested in
finding out if: 1) Did you feel safer on the Malahat during the
campaign? Please send comments to
Alan Perry. |
